Sofia was playing when she heard gunshots. "I was frightened and ran to ask for my mum and dad," she remembers. What she found was a 9-year-old girl's worst nightmare. Her mother lay outside the house in a pool of blood. Then she went inside to find her father also bleeding from horrific wounds...
Sofia’s mum and dad were determined to spread the gospel among guerrilla-controlled areas in Colombia. Their message of love and peace was seen as a hostile attack, punishable by death.
Like so many children from families who are at high risk of persecution, Sofia has no choice but to suffer. Yet Open Doors has seen their pain.
Today, Sofia lives in a childrens’ centre that Open Doors operates through the gifts of people who care about children who are orphaned and at risk of being conscripted into guerrilla groups. She says, “My parents are in heaven and I am under the care of the Lord Jesus”.
Your gift to Open Doors today can help comfort the most vulnerable victims of persecution by providing them with the following:
- $5 will place a Bible into the hands of a child of the persecuted church.
- $17 will allow a child like Sofia to stay at the Colombian Children's Centre for a day
- $32 will train a Sunday school teacher to share a love and hope of Jesus with suffering children
- $148 will provide a bible and training for a child to read, giving dignity and a future
